June 20, 2009 Surfing Competition - First annual Professional Longboard Association contest. Time: 8 a.m. begins. Sponsored by the PLA, the event includes both men's and women's divisions, allowing ASP North America to establish a legitimate tour for male and female ASP LQS competitors to earn points towards qualification for the ASP World Longboard Tour. June 20, 2009 The Magic of Composting. This hands-on event is offered in a natural setting that practices composting. Shipley Nature Center presents The Magic of Composting lecture on Vermicomposting (composting food scraps with worms) and Backyard Composting (traditional composting with yard waste and other organics). Learn how easily you can transform your kitchen scraps and backyard cuttings into rich compost for your plants and gardens. Event will repeat on July 11, 2009, if you can't attend. June 20, 2009 Art - Windows Gallery in Huntington Beach Central Library exhibit features 19th century urban planner Ildefons Cerdà. Designing the expansion of Barcelona, his plans included grids to accommodate pedestrians, carriages, urban railway lines and sewers to prevent frequent floods, while still addressing public enhancements through private gardens and other amenities. June 20, 2009 Art Exhibit - Milford Zornes, N.A., American Artist. Honoring the works of one of America's esteemed artists, oil paintings that have never been exhibited until now are featured in the rare collection of art by Zornes, who passed away in February after reaching 100 years of age. June 20, 2009 Wetlands viewing - Birders, nature lovers and the curious are invited to drop by the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve, one of the West Coast's significant flyways for migrating birds. Bring binoculars to enjoy even closer views of these soaring creatures. Location: Pacific Coast Highway between Seapoint and Warner on the east side of the highway.
