January 1, 2013 Surf City Splash. Pancake Breakfast fundraiser in morning and Splash begins at noon. Registration: $10. Formerly known as Pier's Polar Plunge, it includes a dip and dive into the Pacific Ocean. Wetlands viewing - Birders, nature lovers and the curious are invited to visit Bolsa Chica Ecological Preserve, a significant flyway for migrating birds. Binoculars recommended. Location: Pacific Coast Highway between Seapoint and Warner on the east side of the highway. 1.5 mile loop trail and 300 acres of protected wetlands! Beach Bonfire - Free first come, first serve fire rings offer a chance to have an outdoor cooked meal. Bring your own wood. The rings are located on Huntington City Beach south of the HB Pier, at Huntington State Beach (PCH & Beach Blvd. entrance), and Bolsa Chica State Beach (PCH between Warner & Seapoint). Hours: open 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. All beaches charge parking fees (around $15) but there also is some street coin meter parking near City Beach at Beach Blvd. and Pacific Coast Highway.
