The Music Man 

The Music Man premiered on Broadway in 1957. It was adapted for film in 1962 and 2003, and took Meredith Willson 8 years and 30 revisions to complete the musical, for which he wrote more than 40 songs. The cast recording of The Music Man won the first Grammy Award for Best Original Cast Album (Broadway or TV) ever issued.

Meredith Willson’s The Music Man is family entertainment with classic songs, Till There Was You, Seventy-six Trombones and Trouble. Meredith Willson’s The Music Man is a rousing, funny, warm, romantic and touching classic musical – family entertainment at its best. We follow fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for an all boys band. He vows to organize this despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. Harold’s plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall. Features hit songs Till There Was You, Seventy-six Trombones and Trouble.

Director, Tim Nelson, and choreographers, Diane Makas and Jennifer Simpson-Matthews, lead a talented cast comprised of performers from Orange, Los Angeles and Stanislaus counties, featuring Tim Nelson of Westminster as ‘Professor Harold Hill’ – Tricia Griffin of Ceres as ‘Marian Paroo’ ­– Vincent Aniceto of La Mirada as ‘Marcellus Washburn’ – Mary Murphy-Nelson of Westminster as ‘Eulalie MacKecknie Shinn’ – Cliff Senior of Fullerton as ‘Mayor Shinn’ – and Sylvia Tomaselli Nelson of Long Beach as ‘Mrs. Paroo.’ Brian Chapman of Huntington Beach; and Matt, Alex, and Bob Bartosch of Westminster are the ‘The Barbershop Quartet.’

Also featured are Gary Canavello of Brea – Katie Bartosch of Westminster – Glynn Montemayor of Hacienda Heights – Michael Keane of Huntington Beach – Melanie Mitchell of Orange – and Kara Stribling.

The Rose Center Theater is located at, off of Westminster Avenue two blocks east of Beach Boulevard. Parking is available in the corner lot or at City Hall in the public parking stalls.
