Victorian Christmas Open House Huntington Beach Historical Society

Newland House Museum Open House Friday, December 5, 2014, 5-9 p.m. Free admission

Each year the Rivers family provides some of Kelly's famous cookies and brownies, cocoa and coffee (may request small donation for food) inviting the public into the Historic Newland House Museum at Newland Center for the Newland House Christmas. In 2013 a Marine Band Antebellum was scheduled, but canceled, though there may be some sort of musical entertainment if arranged at this late date.

Old West author & historian Craig MacDonald is on hand to entertain with stories from his Old West Christmas, Tales with a Twist book based on true accounts of Christmas during California's gold rush.

The Newland House Museum is open to the public the first and third Saturdays and Sundays of the month, and each year is decorated with holiday lights, red bows, wreaths and special, yet simple decor.

One year a granddaughter of the Newland family decorated the home and created a very special glow reminiscent of the years that her family owned and lived in the house on the hill in Huntington Beach. The Newland were farmers, bankers and founding members of many Southern California enterprises, including the budding City of Huntington Beach.
