July 2007 Huntington Beach Events California
July is the kind month sun-kissed weather as the fog lets up and a host of events hitting our West Shore of the Huntington Beach Pier and downtown area. The big draw, hands down, is the US Open of Surfing and Beach Games. Pitched fever and a furor of activity comes to the beaches of Huntington Beach for this awesome 2 week event. But the beach has also lights up for a spectacular fireworks show in early July on the 4th. This is a new tradition established in July 2004, and though funding it and strategy to get people in and out of the event seamlessly offer many challenges, it is embraced by enough council members who want to fund it and support it that the local audience has a chance to come and celebrate their city, like others along the coast do each year.

July 7, 2007 Play - Moon Over Buffalo by Ken Ludwig. Moon Over Buffalo is the story of an acting couple, George and Charlotte Hay, performing in Buffalo in 1953. The comedy by Ken Ludwig was made popular by Carol Burnett’s return to Broadway after 30 years and her Tony Award nomination. In the madcap comedy tradition of Lend me a Tenor, Moon Over Buffalo centers on the Hays, fading stars of the 1950's. At the moment, they’re performing in two plays in Buffalo, New York while on the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George’s dalliance with a young ingénue. They receive word that they might have one last shot at stardom when Frank Capra plans to come to Buffalo to see their matinee. If likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Unfortunately, everything that could go wrong does go wrong for for George and Charlotte. A visit from their daughter’s clueless fiancé and hilarious uncertainty about which play they’re actually performing would normally end fading careers. But in a twist of fate, not all is lost for the ambitious couple whose lives are filled with drama, both personally and professionally. Directed by Tom Amen and performed by students of Golden West College; Running Time: 120 minutes. Location: 15744 Golden West Street, Huntington Beach, California 92647. Mainstage Theater, Box office (714) 895-8150, Tuesday-Thursday, 2-5 pm. Admission: $12. Show time: 8 p.m.

July 14, 2007 Play - Moon Over Buffalo by Ken Ludwig.
