August 18, 2006 Musical - Surf City USA - It's a new musical,
dude. Romance blossoms in the shadow of some gnarly waves in this nostalgic
look back at The Beach Boys and Gidget. Such are the days
when girls wore modest two-piece bathing suits, teased hair and no tattoos.
Beach boys were torn between surfing and their girls, but romance usually
found a way to overcome the obstacles set in its path. Such is life
in this idealized look at Surf City USA. Book, lyrics and music by Shirley
Orlando, directed and choreographed by Roberta Kay, music directed and
arranged by Erik Przytulski, produced by Bettie Muellenberg, Monica
Bartolone and Mike Bower. Show time: 8 p.m. Cost: $18 - 20. Location:
Huntington Beach Playhouse, 7111 Talbert Ave., Huntington
Beach, CA. Call: (714) 375-0696. www.hbph.com
