Shooting Hollywood: The Diana Poole Stories' very own Melody Johnson Howe novel brings her acting life and writing life together in City of Mirrors. She give readers the unforgettable Diana Poole, a perfectly cast detective for this complex, intelligent tale.

Daryl Wood Gerber's book, Final Sentence inaugurates the Cookbook Nook Mystery series featuring Jenna Hart, an avid reader, admitted foodie, and owner of a cookbook store in picturesque coastal California. Under the pseudonym, Avery Ames, her Cheese Shop Mystery books also include fantastic recipes.

About Friends of the Library

This dedicated group of literary buffs enjoy a good spin. Each month, they sponsor a public lecture with top authors who visit the library, speak about their literary works, and sign books. If you have been bitten by the bug to read (or write), this is one of the better organizations to help you connect with fiction and non-fiction in Huntington Beach. (Our favorite poetry group is Tebot Bach.)

With an individual membership costing only $15, this is one of the most affordable groups to join in the city. In addition to their love of books, the group also shares a kinship to supporting the Huntington Beach Library System, which unlike other surrounding cities, operates independently of the county organization. With a healthy system of library branches and the shining star, Central Library in Central Park, Friends of the Library provides volunteers who run the gift shop inside the door of Central Library. Gift cards, kids games and books, puppets and puzzles, and lots of gems such as porcelain collector items, can be purchased in the gift shop. A portion of the proceeds benefits programs as the library.

In addition to volunteer opportunities, free invitation to the annual Friends party and invites to trips, you'll get the satisfaction of knowing you are supporting reading, literacy, and the many free programs the library system provides, some through the help of Friends of the Library.

Join by sending check or visiting the Central Library Gift Shop. Cost: $15/adult; $10/student or senior; $20 family; $30 sustaining; $50 associate; Lifetime $150; Benefactor $500. Make check payable to: FOTL. Mailing address: FOTL, Huntington Central Library, 7111 Talbert Ave., Huntington Beach, CA. 92648.
