Surf City Comedy Club at
Martini Blues, Huntington Beach, California

back to calendar
Surf City Comedy Club
features the best talent around
the nation. Each week the
Martini Blues (formerly a jazz
club) brings top acts from Los
Angeles and nationally to
Huntington Beach's club
atmosphere for a free show. Surf
City Comedy Club is absolutely
one of the best deals in the
region.
When going, the atmosphere
is not upscale. You can dress up
if you like in this supper club
where dinner such as steaks,
appetizers and food plates are
served late with cocktails or
beer on tap. But you can also
wear jeans, as there's a sports
bar on site and a rock-n-roll
vibe that often takes over the
place.
Surf City Nights was
originally hosted as a Comedy
Club with Bill Word. He gave
comedy classes and and had
comedy act competitions. Martini
Blues was sold and the new
management went another
direction, requesting Bob
Perkell take the the helm of the
comedy event, as Word had
relocated his gig to a club in
Anaheim.
Surf City Comedy moniker
somewhat limits the branding of
this event as it would draw
greater audience if it featured
the acts' global reach and Los
Angeles club influence, as well
as their many media credits.
Thus, the attendance doesn't
quite reach its potential on
many Thursdays, and the
longevity of this wonderful club
night is not a given, according
to our estimates. So, if you
love comedy and you don't dig
driving to L.A., stay in OC and
pick up some great stuff in the
night clubs around the county.
In addition to Martini Blues,
you'll find comedy nights at
Gallaghers Pub in downtown
Huntington Beach, just off Main
Street at Walnut, across from
Crabby Kenny's.
Where to stay: The two
closest hotels are
Hotel Huntington Beach near
the Bella Terra Mall and 405
Freeway, and
Extended Stay near Boeing
and the 22 Freeway.
