Japanese Cultural Festival

The Sister City Association of Huntington Beach will present the Japanese Cultural festival on Saturday, March 29, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Huntington Beach Central Park, 7111 Talbert Ave., Huntington Beach. The event will feature Japanese food (special guest: Ramen Burger), music, dance, crafts and games. Performers will include Kokoro Taiko Kai, Kotobuki no Kai (dance), Matsubayashi Shorin-ryu Dojo of Little Tokyo, Ukulele Kolohe and Hula Dancers, Bando Hidesomi Nihon Buyo Class (classical dance), Daion Taiko, Ryan Kaneko (koto), Jam Anime (Japanese music), and Nancy Hayata/Yuyake Koyake (traditional and contemporary Japanese dance).

The Anime Costume Contest will be sponsored by the Huntington Beach Pet Vet. Entry fee is $5. A silent auction will benefit the Huntington Beach-Anjo Sister City Student Exchange Program. Mary Adams Urashima will be signing copies of her new book, “Historic Wintersburg in Huntington Beach.” The festival will be held behind the Central Library at the outdoor bandstand stage. The library entrance is on Talbert off Goldenwest Street. Go to the back parking lot and walk down the path to the festival site.
