Vern Pat Nelson, Pianist

Past event:

Joining Nelson on about half the music will be internationally acclaimed flute player Janelle Barrera, shortly before she jets up north to perform a major concerto with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.

A new CD -- a perfect Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, or Immaculate Conception present - entitled "24 Prunes or Galaxies," consists of the most beautiful and strange compositions of Erik Satie and his two most prominent disciples, Francois Poulenc and Darius Milhaud. The concert program is more diverse than ever, filled with all kinds of unusual stuff:

  • Janelle: Mozart's Concerto in G Major
  • Poulenc's exquisite Sonata (on new CD)
  • Airport Sadness by the suave contemporary jazz master Brad Mehldau
  • Paolo Conte's haunting piece by the Italian
  • Will Jason's overlooked 20th-century (and HB-connected) compositions saved from death by transcribing them from a 1950 cassette of his improvising - his passionate Melody in E-flat Major - -
  • Nelson's Sonatina world premiere written in Lancaster prison in 2009
  • Exciting JAZZ standards by Chick Correa, John Coltrane and Eubie Blake
  • Beloved ROCK classics by Led Zeppelin, Elton John and The Doors (some of those with Janelle)
  • 714-235-VERN
