April 16, 2005 High School Color Guard SA Prelims Competition - This high school level competition is sponsored by Southern California from the Winter Guard Association of Southern California. Now the largest color guard circuit in North America, the WGASC sponsors circuit championships, second only to the WGI World Championships with over 100 guards and percussion lines. April 16, 2005 Jazz Concert - Saxophonist Marion Meadows. With nine releases in his career, saxophonist Marion Meadows recently released Players' Club to pay tribute to his peers. Smooth jazz-styled soprano saxophonist Marion Meadows was born in West Virginia but raised in Connecticut. He began playing saxophone as a teen, later studying composition and arranging at Boston's Berklee College of Music. A protege of Joe Henderson and Eddie Daniels, Meadows later served a long stint as a member of Norman Connors' Starship Orchestra; after a series of session dates and sideman gigs, he made his solo debut in 1990 with the RCA release For Lovers Only, followed in 1992 by Keep It Right There. Resurfacing two years later with Forbidden Fruit, after 1995's Body Rhythm Meadows jumped to Discovery to issue 1997's Pleasure. He then moved to Heads Up for Another Side of Midnight (1999), Next To You (2000), and In Deep (2002). Location: Huntington Beach Central Library and Cultural Center Theater, 7111 Talbert Avenue. April 16, 2005 Golf Tournament - Seventeenth Annual City Golf Tournament sponsored by the City of Huntington Beach Community Services Department will be held at Meadowlark Golf Course. The tournament is open to all men and women whether you have a handicap or not. Registration is limited to 100 golfers. For a $75 registration fee, all golfers will receive green fees, golf carts, tee prizes, and a food/drink coupon. The tournament will use a Peoria handicap system. Awards will be given to the top ten players for low gross and the top ten players for low net; also “longest drive” and “closest to the pin.” Location: 16782 Graham Street, Huntington Beach, CA 92649 . April 16, 2005 Bolsa Chica Wetlands and Mesa Tour meets the third Sunday of every month. Time: 10 a.m. to Noon. This is a two-hour walking tour of the Bolsa Chica Mesa and Wetlands conducted by the Bolsa Chica Land Trust. This docent-led tour makes five stops along the walkbridge and loop trails of the wetlands. Meet in the Ecological Reserve parking lot. Warm clothing, comfortable shoes and binoculars are recommended.
