January 1, 2005 Pier's Polar Plunge includes a dip and dive into the Pacific Ocean. A loosely organized group of brave individuals show up and run together into the water near the Huntington Beach Pier (south side) before returning to shore. Just show up and run at approximately 10 a.m. It's fun! Suggested donation of $10 minimum. Call: 714-374-5683

January 1, 2006 The Huntington Beach Longboard Crew Surfing Club 20th Annual HB Pier Paddle Race. Meets at the Huntington Beach Pier and enjoys a morning gathering. This nonprofit group meets monthly usually on around the first Wednesday of the month at Mario's at 5 Points Plaza and discusses events and issues. www.hblongboardcrew.org

January 1, 2006 Roller Blading Fun Roll - Join the group of roller bladers who meet near the Huntington Beach Pier for a fun roller blade 16-mile round trip at an easy going pace (all levels and ages, plus bicycles welcome) from Huntington Beach to Newport Beach. Time: 10:30 a.m. Cost: Free. Just show up!

January 1, 2006 Snowflakes light up the Huntington Beach Pier and Main Streetthrough New Year's Day. Approximately 84 artificial snowflakes strewn with twinkling lights adorn light downtown Huntington Beach. They are a delight to see. There are 48 on the pier and 36 stretching along Main Street from Pacific Coast Highway to Orange Avenue. Traditionally placed along Main Street and the Huntington Beach Pier, they are truly beautiful displays of holiday spirit in Huntington Beach. Watch the twinkling lights reflect on the Pacific Ocean waters below.
