July 7, 2007 Play - Moon Over Buffalo by Ken
Ludwig. Moon Over Buffalo is the story of an acting couple, George and
Charlotte Hay, performing in Buffalo in 1953. The comedy by Ken Ludwig was
made popular by Carol Burnett’s return to Broadway after 30 years and her
Tony Award nomination. In the madcap comedy tradition of Lend me a Tenor,
Moon Over Buffalo centers on the Hays, fading stars of the 1950's. At the
moment, they’re performing in two plays in Buffalo, New York while on the
brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George’s dalliance with a young
ingénue. They receive word that they might have one last shot at stardom
when Frank Capra plans to come to Buffalo to see their matinee. If likes
what he sees, he might cast them in his movie remake of The Scarlet
Pimpernel. Unfortunately, everything that could go wrong does go wrong for
for George and Charlotte. A visit from their daughter’s clueless fiancé and
hilarious uncertainty about which play they’re actually performing would
normally end fading careers. But in a twist of fate, not all is lost for the
ambitious couple whose lives are filled with drama, both personally and
professionally. Directed by Tom Amen and
performed by students of Golden West College;
