October 6, 2007 Walk fundraiser - NAMIWalks for the Mind of America, 3rd annual Orange County 5K at the Huntington Beach Pier. The NAMIWalks for the Mind of America is a nationwide fundraising and mental health awareness program that is being held this year in over 70 communities around the country, including Huntington Beach, CA. NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) provides mental health services to thousands of families across the country. All the proceeds from this Walk will be used to fund NAMI’s programs here in Orange County . These programs include support, education, research and advocacy involving schizophrenia, bipolar disorder (manic depression), major depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder and severe anxiety disorders. Our goal is to raise $175,000.00.There is no registration fee for the Walk. All participants are encouraged to collect donations. October 6, 2007 Amigos de Bolsa Chica Tours - The Amigos de Bolsa Chica offers free public tours of the Bolsa Chica wetlands in Huntington Beach. Meet on the bridge at the parking lot on PCH and take a 1.5 mile guided walk at the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve. The guides will point out the common plants, animals and birds, discuss wetlands conservation, endangered species and related topics.
