August 23, 2008 Surfing America USA's
SIMA Invitation Surf Competition. This
invitation only event from Surf Industry
Manufacturers Association (SIMA) will be
held next to the Huntington Beach Pier. The
USA Championships are the foremost event in
American junior surfing and include an
ASP-certified panel of judges, live scoring
and four-person, twenty-minute heats.
Although, the event is youth focused, it
still holds divisions for elder surfers as
well. SIMA demonstrates support for
advancing competitive surfing in the United
States as a presenting sponsor of Surfing
America’s USA Championships and USA Surf
Team Selection event. The 2008 Surfing
America USA Championships presented by SIMA
will be held in Huntington Beach, from
August 19 through August 24, 2008. This will
be the fifth annual USA Championship hosted
by Surfing America since being appointed the
National Governing Body (NGB) for the sport

Art Exhibit - Milford Zornes, N.A., American
Artist. Honoring the works of one of
America's esteemed artists, oil paintings
that have never been exhibited until now are
featured in the rare collection of art by
Zornes, who passed away in February after
reaching 100 years of age.

the International Surfing Museum of
Huntington Beach in California a combination
of her artwork made in Australia , Caribbean

Surfing Sounds
Part II: Jan & Dean. This new exhibit
explores the relationship and affect surfing
music has on the surfing culture and pop
culture, as well. It will feature original
art by Huntington Beach resident,
Dean Torrence of Jan & Dean, and will include memorabilia from the
band's decade-long rise to fame with songs
that topped the charts with 28 hits:
Deadman's Curve, Little Old Lady from
Pasadena, Surf City and that actually
continues today with concert tours. (Note:
Jan Berry passed away in March 2004.) In
addition to this exhibition, Celine Chat

Ground US. Artists Kiel Johnson, Lucrecia Troncoso and P. Williams. are
three creators who explore and investigate the sprawling environment and the
constant development of concrete encroaching on natural spaces. Everyday
materials such as cardboard, wood, paper and sponge are used in the creation
of the artists’ ideal utopias. Event runs through August 31, 2008.

roller blade, bike, jog and walk with a
group of enthusiasts that have been making
the 16-mile round trip trek along the beach
path each week for nearly a decade. The
group meets around 10 am at Pier Plaza north
of the Huntington Beach Pier (Pacific Coast
