September 20, 2009 Huntington Beach City Surfing Contest. City Surfing Championships are limited to Huntington Beach residents that reside in the Huntington Beach Union High School District. Freestyle divisions for Super Masters, Grand Masters, Seniors, Masters, Men, Juniors, Boys, Women and Menehune, with winners getting trophies. All participants will receive a t-shirt with a special surf logo. Sponsored by Huntington Surf and Sport and Duke's, registration is limited to the first 175 people. Time: 8 a.m. Cost: $30/person. September 20, 2009 They’re Playing Our Song, musical. Book by Neil Simon, lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager, and music by Marvin Hamlisch, is based on relationship between Hamlisch and Sager. This RCT production is led by Tim Nelson as music composer ‘Vernon Gersch’ and Tracy Rowe Mutz as lyricist ‘Sonia Walsk.’ Also featured are local Orange County performers: Danielle Green, Jacob Gonzalez, Carrie Hacker, Allan Penales, Kyle Selig and Jennifer Simpson-Matthews. September 20, 2009 Bolsa Chica Wetlands and Mesa Tour. Free tour meets the third Sunday of every month. This is a two-hour walking tour of the Bolsa Chica Mesa and Wetlands conducted by the Bolsa Chica Land Trust. This docent-led tour makes five stops along the walkbridge and loop trails of the wetlands. Meet in the Ecological Reserve parking lot. Warm clothing, comfortable shoes and binoculars are recommended. Time: 10 a.m. to Noon. Cost: Free.
