Katin Pro Am Team Challenge, surfing -
through Jan. 12. Founded in 1977 by Nancy
Katin (Kanvas by Katin) the event has hosted
Shaun Tomson, Tom Curren, Sunny
Garcia, and Kelly Slater and brands Hurley,
Quiksilver, Lost, Fox, Reef, Jack's
Surfboards and more. This surfing
event features 17 teams of four surfers
each, competing in open-draw format. It's a
two-day event held during window of January
5-12. Cost: Paid parking: Huntington Beach
Pier, 325 Pacific Coast Highway, Huntington

Wetlands viewing -The public is invited
to visit the Bolsa Chica Ecological
Preserve, a significant flyway for migrating
birds. Binoculars recommended. Location:
Pacific Coast Highway between Seapoint and
Warner on the east side of the highway. 1.5
mile loop trail and 300 acres of protected
wetlands! Pets and bicycles are not
permitted on the trails. Open sunrise to
dusk.
