April 10, 2008  Surfing Theatre - Sliding Liberia, the story of  Surfing, War & Peace. Four young surfers travel through a war-torn West African nation of Liberia. Big Red Productions presents a surfing film for families to enjoy. At the affordable venue, Charter Centre, new admission rates ($3/person) make the event a standout for family and youth entertainment. Giveaways such as surf gear and surfing items, raffles and sometimes live entertainment by surfing bands are presented on this special surf theater night.  Cost: $3 person. April 10, 2008 Play - Steel Magnolias. This Huntington Beach Playhouse Production is set in Louisiana. Truvy’s Beauty Salon  for Southern ladies is the center of the community's social world. It is where secrets are revealed, gossip relayed, and advice dispensed. Drama, humor and a range of emotions of the beauty shop women are explored in this play that's especially appealing to females. The script was also written as a popular movie production with Daryl Hannah, Sally Fields and Julia Roberts, to name a few. Time: 8 p.m. Cost: $18-20. April 10, 2008  Art - Windows Gallery in Huntington Beach Central Library exhibit features 19th century urban planner Ildefons Cerdà. Designing the expansion of Barcelona, his plans included grids to accommodate pedestrians, carriages, urban railway lines (as yet unheard-of,  and sewers to prevent frequent floods, while still addressing public enhancements through private gardens and other amenities.   Free to see.
