March 6, 2009 Robert Mayer at Authors Luncheon. Robert Mayer, developer of the Hilton Waterfront Resort, Hyatt Regency Resort & Spa, and The Waterfront residential community in Huntington Beach, is the author of Without Risk There’s No Reward. He is a featured speaker at the monthly luncheon for Friends of the Library. Other authors include Kai Weisser, author of Huntington Beach Lifeguards. This book features vintage photographs, including snapshots of lifeguards, surfers, and world-class events. It illustrates how uniforms, lifeguarding, and equipment have changed and advanced through the years. Weisser is a former Huntington Beach lifeguard and was president of the Huntington Beach Surf Life Saving. Also speaking will be Chris Epting, author of Huntington Beach Then and Now the 100-year history of Huntington Beach – a photo book with narrative of life in Surf City. Cost: $18 per person - Reservations required. Checks must be received no later than Monday, March 2. Rugs in the shape of surfboards, surf themed wall decor and planter boxes, household gifts, original art and body products are usually featured by vendors selling their creations at this weekly event held at Pier Plaza next to the Huntington Beach Pier.
