Surf City Splash (formerly called Pier's Polar Plunge) - at Huntington Beach Pier. A pancake breakfast, with pancakes and sausage served by the Lions Club from 8:30am - 11am in Pier Plaza for $5. Participants to this fundraiser will run into the ocean at designated time, around noon. Receive Certificate of Lion-Heartedness for a $10 donation. January 1 The Huntington Beach Longboard Crew Surfing Club 21st Annual HB Pier Paddle Race. Meets at the Huntington Beach Pier and enjoys a morning gathering. This nonprofit group meets monthly usually on around the first Wednesday of the month at Mario's at 5 Points Plaza and discusses events and issues. hblongboardcrew.org

January 1 Snowflakes light up the Huntington Beach Pier and Main Street through New Year's Day. Approximately 84 artificial snowflakes strewn with twinkling lights adorn light downtown Huntington Beach. They are a delight to see. There are 48 on the pier and 36 stretching along Main Street from Pacific Coast Highway to Orange Avenue. Traditionally placed along Main Street and the Huntington Beach Pier, they are truly beautiful displays of holiday spirit in Huntington Beach.
