Three artists were selected as Artists in Residence to complete new work, introduce the public to their creative process and engage the community in dialogue. 2012 Huntington Beach Disaster Preparedness Expo - sponsored by the Huntington Beach Fire Department Emergency Management and Homeland Security Office, this free event is held in an effort to educate and inform the public. Representatives from the Firemed, Huntington Beach Police Department, HB Fire Department Urban Search & Rescue (USAR), National Weather Service, American Red Cross, HB CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams), HB RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service), Ready OC, and other groups and agencies will be on hand to distribute information, host displays and interactive opportunities for all ages. The Expo is free of charge and will have fun and exciting demonstrations by experts in disaster preparedness. Learn about the hazards facing Huntington Beach and what you need to do to prepare such as, how to use a fire extinguisher, prepare a grab-n-go bag, 72 hour survival kit, etc. Location: Huntington Beach Central Library, 7111 Talbert Ave., Huntington Beach, CA. Jason Arimoto - Facemelting Ukulele. Hawaii-born, Los Angeles-based musician and featured artist on the Na Hoku Hano Hano Award winning album, Solo Ukulele: The King of Pop. Jason is a two-time winner of the Ukulele Underground Award for Best Vocal Performance of the Year. He has attracted a following for his blues ukulele covers of Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing” and John Mayer’s Gravity. His original music blends his island roots with reggae and blues, with soulful vocals combining with a bluesy ukulele tone. Jason has performed across the U.S. including the Bean Blossom Blues Festival in Indiana and the world famous Viper Room in Hollywood, California as well as internationally at the Cairns Ukulele Festival in Australia.
