April 19, 2009 Earth Day Celebration at Rainbow Disposal Co., Inc. The Huntington Beach Centennial Celebration is underway and April 2009 has been designated as Environmental Month. The Earth Day Celebration will include booths that celebrate this community organization, Rainbow Disposal. Exhibits hosted by Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley Public Works, Utility and Water Companies; tasty food & drinks, entertainment by Academy of Performing Arts, and earth-friendly prizes (in the past there have been water buckets, yardsticks, etc.) Tours of Rainbow's newest modernized facility will be conducted and there will be opportunities to recycle old batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and electronic waste. Plenty of parking will be available across from Rainbow Disposal on Nichols Street. This event is open to the public. Time: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost: Free. April 19, 2009  Bolsa Chica Wetlands and Mesa Tour.  Free tour meets the third Sunday of every month. This is a two-hour walking tour of the Bolsa Chica Mesa and Wetlands conducted by the Bolsa Chica Land Trust. This docent-led tour makes five stops along the walkbridge and loop trails of the wetlands. Meet in the Ecological Reserve parking lot. Warm clothing, comfortable shoes and binoculars are recommended. Time: 10 a.m. to Noon. Cost: Free.
