September 17, 2011 Sunset Beach Chili Cook Off. The 14th Annual Event is on from 11AM to 3PM in The newly revised Sunset Beach Community Lot on 12th Street between PCH and North Pacific Avenue. Come and taste Chili from Many Local Restaurants as well as STAR REAL ESTATE and Central Escrow. The cost is a $5 Donation. There is also Entertainment from "Party Jones" and Your MC is Robby Armstrong. You could also enter in The Raffle to win Good Prizes. Proceeds from The Event benefit The Sunset Beach Woman's Club. Pacific Islander Festival - Sept. 17-18, 2011.Cultural traditions, performances and arts of Pacific Island nations including Samoa, Tonga, Hawaii, Tahiti (Polynesia), Aotearoa (New Zealand), Guam, Northern Marianas, Marshall Islands (Micronesia), and Fiji (Melanesia). Enjoy cultural demonstrations, live hands-on arts projects, coconut and pandanus plaiting (weaving), lei making, tapa making and design, drumming, traditional chants, music, story-telling, cultural artifact exhibits, traditional protocol and island ceremony, and authentic performances on center stage, all in the Island Villages atmosphere. Cuisine of the Pacific will be sold. On Sunday at 9 a.m. a spiritual a capella music event convenes before the traditional program begins.Cost: Free. Surf City Days - Sept. 17-18, 2011. A new event sponsored by the Huntington Beach Downtown BID brings folks back to the beach for some riparian entertainment, even though some think summer has ended. Family friendly, there are contests such as a sandcastle contest, volleyball, paddleboarding, demos, expos and more. Cost: Free! Oktoberfest - Adults only night at Old World Village. Dance, eat, drink be merry at this annual German tradition. Huntington Beach Annual Surf Contest - Sept. 17-18 at Huntington Beach Pier. by The City of Huntington Beach Community Service Department, Huntington Surf & Sport and Dukes are event sponsors. Event will be limited to persons residing in the Huntington Beach Union High School District. Winners of each division will receive awards. Driver’s license or school ID with proof of age (birth certificate) must be presented before competing. Ages are as of contest date. Friday, August 26 is the last day to sign up.
