October 1, 2005    Oktoberfest at Old World Village Restaurant - Get out your lederhosen and learn the Chicken Dance at Oktoberfest in Huntington Beach. The event includes a live German band, dancing and tasty German foods from bratwürst with sauerkraut and potato salad to apple strudel. Shot girls in dirndl skirts sell liqueurs and a bar sells German and import beers plus mixed drinks. Oktoberfest offers adults only nights on Saturdays. This often sells out to standing room only crowds that line up and wait for an opportunity to enter the beer hall. Come early for seating. There's also patio seating for smokers. October 1, 2005 Surfing - National Scholastic Surfing Association NSSA 2005/2006 Season Juniors competition. Contest 2 in this series is A rated. It will be held at 9th Street in Huntington Beach. It is open for middle school short board competitors grade 6 to 8; middle school longboard competion is for boys and girls grade 6 to with 9 foot minimum board size; high school shortboard for grades 9 through 11; high school longboard for boys and girls grades 9 through 11 with 9 foot board minimum; girls surfing shortboard grades 6 through 11; bodyboarding grades 6 through 11. October 2, 2005  LONG BEACH  - Pet Blessing ceremony is part of Friends of Long Beach Animal Appreciation Day and 2K/5K Walk for the Animals at Heartwell Park, 5102 Carson St. (@ Clark). No reservation is necessary. Seniors, families, singles, and children, can bring their dogs, cats, birds, lizards, rabbits, pot-bellied pigs or any other type of well-behaved pet. Some unusual pets have included a hedgehog, an aquafrog, goldfish, an opossum and a snake. The event is expected to last approx. 40 minutes. This concert will showcase the talent of this 65 member group which has quickly reached a vast audience around the world through the international language of music.
