A-Faire Held weekly on Friday from Noon to Dusk (approx. 5 p.m.) Held

Park behind Central Library. Costumed actors portray the mid-1800 Civil War
era in which many Californians traveled east to participate in. Central Park
is transformed into a battleground between the Artillery and Infantry with
combat, cannon fire and encampments. A special twilight concert will be held
on Saturday. Also on site will be vendor booths featuring books, period
costumes and even youth dressed to the era. The event is sponsored by the
Huntington Beach Historical Society. Time: Begins Saturday (officially) at

Boardfest 2006 - Formerly known as Hello Kitty Boardfest, the
Boardfest is a festival for girls includes professional and amateur surfing
competitions, plus music, fashion and interactive exhibits. Beginning and
intermediate surfing and skateboarding clinics will be held. Also enjoy live
music, games and fun. Twenty tons of fresh snow will fall on Huntington
Beach's city beaches as part of Boardfest '06, a surf, snow and skate
competition. All-girl teams will be snowboarding down a three-story platform
at the Huntington Beach Pier Boardfest, starting Saturday, Sept. 2, through
Monday, Sept. 4, during the Labor Day weekend. The event is known for its
all-female snowboard rail jams, where world-class athletes will compete for
a $1,000 "trick" prize. Competition organizers built a custom platform for
the snowboarders. The fest also features live bands, yoga clinics and dance

September 9, 2006 Nutcracker Ballet Auditions - Ballet Etudes
auditions for its production of “The Nutcracker.” Ballet Etudes is a
nonprofit youth ballet company extending performing opportunities to
pre-professional ballet students while introducing the art of ballet to
young audience members. Auditions are open to pre-professional ballet
students ages 5-19, and prior performing experience is highly recommended.
There will also be a costume/rummage sale and bake sale during auditions
between 11:15 a.m. and 2 p.m. Hot dogs and root beer floats will be

Beach Clean-Up Hosted by Simple Green. You’re Invited! 22nd Annual
California Coastal Cleanup Day, hailed by the Guinness Book of world Records
in 1993 as the “world’s largest garbage collection”. Since 1985, almost 1
million Californians have come out and removed more than 10 million pounds
of trash and debris from our shorelines and coast. In 2005, in Orange County
alone, over 65,000 pounds of trash and debris were removed from beaches,
shorelines, bays, harbors, and other waterways. Gloves and trash
collection bags will be provided. Come on out, take a walk on the beach and
pick up some trash. It will be a beautiful day, and when we’re all done, we
will have clean, beautiful beaches. Be a part of something wonderful; come

Cruelty to Animals (OCSPCA) with sponsor Ralph’s will host the 9th Annual
5K/2K Walk for the Animals, Sunday, September 17 at 9:00am in Central Park
East, Golden West Street, Huntington Beach. Scheduled appearances include
Christina Macaulay of Reach Out (honorary emcee), Tyson the Skateboarding
Bulldog (walk mascot), and Crimson Chaos (Red Hat Society Chapter #2093).
Well-mannered dogs, on leashes, are encouraged to attend. No puppies under
six months. Activities following the walk include entertainment; sponsor
booths; silent auction and door prizes. All funds raised from the Walk help
support the organization’s programs including cruelty prevention through
humane education in the classroom; veterinary care for sick and injured
animals; subsidized spay/neuter, feral cat rescue; and pet-assisted therapy.
Registration is $20.00 before September 1st, $25.00 on the day of the event.
Kids 12 years and under, free. Teams of five or more pay $15.00 each if
